With the goal of bringing a wider selection of hats to South Shore shoppers, Jacob Magpiong is opening South Shore Fitted.

Magpiong thought about opening a board shop when he lived in the Bay Area but didn’t follow through with the plan. But the momentum from that project carried into the planning for South Shore Fitted.

South Shore Fitted features hats from New Era and fitted baseball caps from major-league teams, along with custom hats that store owners design from scratch, Magpiong said.

The store also will sell footwear, select sports apparel and T-shirts.

Magpiong said the focus of the business is to bring in new and upcoming brands that now aren’t available in South Lake Tahoe.

Other owners include Kelly Mallek and Derice Martin.

The grand opening of the store is set for noon Saturday and will be catered by Los Mexicanos, which is right next door. Hip-hop performances by Global Culture and Pound for Pound will provide music, and there also will be giveaways and DJs.

The store is at 1000 Herbert Ave., Unit A, on Highway 50 across the street form Lakeland Village. Hours of operation are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 10 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call (530) 542-3481.
