Prime Healthcare Services announced Friday that it has agreed to acquire St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev., from Dignity Health by the end of June.
As part of the deal, PHS will invest $20 million to improve the infrastructure and operations of the hospital, in addition to keeping nearly all services open and will assume all health plan contracts and review them to protect the financial viability of the hospital, a press release from PHS stated.
Saint Mary’s is a 380-bed acute-care hospital that offers services including a full-service emergency department with an accredited chest-pain center, women’s and children’s services, a cardiac-catherization lab and an open-heart surgery program, the release stated.
It lost more than $43.5 million in net income last year.
The El Dorado County Health & Human Services Agency Public Health Division recently hired Deborah Palmer as its new manager.
Palmer holds a master’s degree in public administration/health services administration. She previously served as director of administration for a national veterans’ healthcare group in Northern California and as a manager of the Health and Human Services Agency in Santa Cruz, Calif. She has lived in El Dorado County for about 14 years.
“I’m excited to meet with groups, agencies, and individuals to hear about health needs and ways we can work together,” said Palmer, who began her job on February 13. “As a smaller, rural county it is especially important that we partner with the community on public health issues. I’ve been very impressed with the collaborative spirit in El Dorado County.”
* Note: The new public health division manager is not the same Deborah A. Palmer who practices law in South Lake Tahoe.
