Joe Schoenfield is bringing his 23 years of tattoo experience to Cosmic Creations Tattoo and Art Gallery.

The shop, which opened in May in the Bijou Center, specializes in custom tattoos. The staff works with each client to make sure the tattoo is exactly what is wanted.

“We put 120 percent into the quality of our tattoos,” Schoenfield said. “We want to put that much extra in every piece that will walk out our door.”

Other artists in Schoenfield’s shop include Colby Pfister, who is in his 1 1/2 year of apprenticeship, and Catherine Roth, who is beginning her apprenticeship.

Schoenfield plans to have art shows at the shop quarterly, and the first one is debuting this weekend. From 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, the shop will present a live art show with Mear One, a world famous graffiti artist and painter. The exhibit will remain in the shop through the month of September.

Schoenfield said he used to work in Los Angeles with Mear One about 15 years ago.

He also wants to have a local artists art show from September to December. Interested artists can submit their work and Schoenfield will select the best pieces to display in his store.

The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. all week. It’s at 949 Unit B Bal Bijou Road, in the Bijou Center.
