South Lake Tahoe rock, funk and folk act Black Star Safari is set to headline a show at Whiskey Dick’s Saloon this weekend.
The Sunday night show is part of the duo’s fall tour, which includes dates in Oregon, California’s Central Valley and San Francisco. The band is also scheduled to perform at the Divided Sky in Meyers Oct. 2.
Brandy Robertson and Dr. Delicious are scheduled to open Sunday’s show. Dr. Delicious is a nine-piece Arizona band dedicated to bringing back the funk.
“An up and coming group born from the love of sniffing through records from the 60’s and 70’s in search of the funkiest and freshest grooves. Dr. Delicious is prescribing only the best deep cuts, You won’t here any top 40 funk tunes at their show,” according to the band’s online biography. “Paying tribute to legends such as O’Donel Levy, Johnny ‘Hammond’ Smith, Harlem River Drive, Gil Scott Heron, and Roy Ayers just to name a few, this 12 piece band delivers everything from the smoothest soul to the hardest of the funk. Dr. Delicious keeps it deep in the pocket in addition to blazing solos, solid grooves and rich harmonies.”
