Blood donors earn a treat
For the past five years, BloodSource and Baskin-Robbins have traditionally provided a special treat to those who care enough to give blood. This year is no exception. Through Dec. 31, people who visit a BloodSource center or mobile drive to donate blood will receive a coupon redeemable for a free pint of Baskin-Robbins ice cream.
Accidents caused by harsh weather, coupled with ailments like the flu and colds, can decrease the number of blood donors during winter months. The holiday gift of ice cream is a very special thanks for giving from Baskin-Robbins to BloodSource donors.
Donors can help community patients by participating in the South Lake Tahoe community blood drive from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the South Lake Tahoe Branch Library, 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.
Over the past year, the blood drive has collected 812 units of blood. The goal for the blood drive is to collect 1,000 units of blood for 2004.
To be a blood donor, one must be in generally good health, at least 17 years of age or 16 with parental consent, and weigh 110 pounds of more.
There is no upper age limit for donating blood. Prospective donors must bring photo identificaton.
