Blood drive scheduled in South Lake Tahoe

BloodSource will hold a South Lake Tahoe Community blood drive on May 1 from noon to 5 p.m. to meet the community need for blood and blood products. The new blood drive will be held at South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Center Gymnasium at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd. It is sponsored by the Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Walk-ins are welcome.

Donating blood is safe, easy and takes about an hour. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be 17 years old (16 year olds need a signed BloodSource parental consent form) and be generally healthy. There is no upper age limit for blood donations. Donors must bring a photo I.D. and should drink plenty of fluids before donating. Potential marrow donors can register for Be the Match through BloodSource. Find more information at http://www.bloodsource.org.
