The following incidents were selected from among those reported to area law enforcement and fire protection districts.

Saturday Aug. 18

12:05 a.m., Bill’s Lake Tahoe Casino, Stateline – battery. A brief fight on a sidewalk in front of Bill’s left Richard Sherman, 44, of Georgetown, Calif., with a bloody swollen face. Sherman told Douglas County sheriff’s deputies that Tyler Smith, 32, of West Jordan, Utah, harassed him and then punched him. Smith told deputies that Sherman asked him for money then insulted his mother.



11:30 p.m., Caesars Casino, Stateline – battery. Douglas County sheriff’s deputies arrested Martin Ferris, 73, of South Lake Tahoe on suspicion of assaulting two security officers at Caesars.

Tuesday Aug. 21




2:31 a.m., 1038 Glenwood Way, South Lake Tahoe – apartment fire. A smoke detector woke Roger Koch and alerted him that curtains and a television were on fire in another bedroom in his apartment. “If he didn’t have that working detector there’s a good chance he might have never woke up,” said South Lake Tahoe Fire Capt. Brad Piazzo. Koch used a fire extinguisher to douse most of the flames, which cause about $1,000 worth of damage.
