Monday, March 19
6:37 a.m., 700 block of Eloise Avenue, South Lake Tahoe – grand theft. A 62-year-old man who rents out rooms in his house had $500 in cash stolen from his desk drawer. Police booked Brandi Orr, 25, of South Lake Tahoe, for the theft. She reportedly was a tenant in the man’s home. While she was being taken into custody, Orr told an officer, “My name is Brandi. I live here. Why am I being handcuffed?”
8:10 a.m.,2300 block of Eloise Avenue, South Lake Tahoe – possession of drug paraphernalia. Police on patrol stopped a tan 1975 Chevrolet van after an officer saw it was not registered. They found Anthony Silva, 40, of South Lake Tahoe, behind the wheel. He reportedly told an officer that a friend gave him the van a couple of weeks ago. Silva allowed police to search the van. Inside officers found a pipe and a small photo canister that allegedly contained methamphetamine residue.
9 p.m., Caesars Tahoe, Stateline – battery. A casino security officer found Michael Salerno, 30, of South Lake Tahoe, asleep in the sports book at Caesars. When the officer tried to wake Salerno, the suspect became angry and struck the officer in the chest. Solerno was detained by casino security until Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and transported the suspect to jail. During the booking process, deputies discovered a 3-inch marijuana pipe in Solerno’s pocket. Solerno was also wanted by authorities for failure to pay restitution. Solerno’s bail was set at $650.
Tuesday, March 20
11:52 a.m., 1700 block of U.S. Highway 50, South Lake Tahoe – drug possession. Security at South Tahoe High School stopped and searched a 15-year-old boy who was reportedly acting suspicious. They found a black canister containing a joint of marijuana, police said. The student was cited and released for having the joint.
5:54 p.m., 3600 block of Tamarack Avenue, South Lake Tahoe – domestic violence. Police arrested Peter Hinde, 36, of South Lake Tahoe, for allegedly pulling the hair of a woman and hitting her in the face. The woman reportedly told an officer that Hinde hit her because he would not be getting a tax return this year.
