Boat launches closed during holidays

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Boat launch facilities at Cave Rock and Sand Harbor will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 due to the holidays and program staff shortages, according to a statement from the Nevada Division of State Parks.

No inspections or decontaminations will be available either of these days.

Normal operating hours at Cave Rock throughout the winter are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Sand Harbor is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Efforts are underway to adjust and extend these hours to better accommodate fishermen, according to the statement.

Watercraft inspectors for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Boat Inspection Program are provided by the Tahoe Resource Conservation District. This program is designed to protect Lake Tahoe from the threat of aquatic invasive species such as quagga and zebra mussels.
