Mardi Gras is the theme for the South Lake Tahoe Yacht Club annual Boat Parade and Blessing of the Boats. The parade is scheduled for Saturday to coincide with the Lake Tahoe Visitor Authority’s Opening Day on the Lake.

The club invites all members and friends to creatively decorate their boats and themselves around the Mardi Gras theme and join in the parade. The clubhouse will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday for members to pick up their entry numbers. The staging will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Tahoe Keys West Lagoon and follow the lead boat out the channel toward Ski Run Marina at 9:45 a.m. Other boaters who wish to join the parade may do so at Timber Cove Marina. Boats not entered in the contest are asked to decorate with red, white and blue.

The Rev. John Grace will bless the passing fleet from a boat anchored near Ski Run Marina. Volunteers will also be on board to judge the boats and decide who will be the winner of the club’s perpetual Best of Show trophy. Boats will be asked to return to their docks following the judging.
