First, Ten Cent Lure bought an RV this spring. Now it has a boat equipped with a viking who plays bass.

The South Shore band again will be the hosts for the Tahoe Aqua Boogie, a four-hour party Thursday, May 29, aboard the MS Dixie II with three bands and five DJs.

“The Queen is great, but the Dixie is more spacious,” said guitarist Jason Sherman. “It’s much more conducive to the type of setup that we’re going to have. Musically, we’ve stepped it up by adding Delta Nove.”

Passengers will have musical options on the three decks during the cruise.

Delta Nove is an Afrobeat funk band with a horn player and a bass player known as “The Viking.”

“He’s a 6-foot-4 huge, redheaded guy,” Sherman said. “He looks just like a viking. He’s going to be right in his element.”

Delta Nove and Ten Cent Lure will play on the lower deck. Humboldt County funk band Moo-Got-2 plays on the second deck.

“The theme is going to be a funk-boogie cruise,” Sherman said. “With Delta Nove and Moo-Got-2, we’ve got a boat of straight funk. (Our band is) more of the redneck groove. I tend to think that funk is mostly bass-driven, where the groove is more band-driven and drum-driven.”

Appropriately, Sean Groover also plays guitar in Ten Cent Lure. Former Moby Grape member “Fuzzy” John Oxendine has been the drummer for the last six months, previously playing washboard and congas.

The upper deck will have DJ JahBliss playing dancehall reggae all night. North Shore DJs Micah J and Big Time will play on the second deck. Between band performances on the lower deck will be DJs Rundown and Spence Lee.

There will be an after-party at MontBleu’s Club Opal with three DJs and the livetronica South Shore band Absynth.

Tickets are $35 plus fees at Tahoe Hemp Co. and online at http://www.jambase.com. The MS Dixie II ships out at 8 p.m. Mount Tallac Brewing Co. will provide beer.

Passengers are encouraged to park at MontBleu and take a shuttle to Zephyr Cove Marina. The $2 round-trip shuttle will leave every 20 minutes from 6:20 to 7:20 p.m. Car parking at Zephyr Cove will be $5.

Folks who take the cruise will be admitted free to the after-party. Otherwise, the cover charge is $7.

DJs Chango and Sonar will play at Club Opal from 10 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. when Absynth takes the stage. Bim Tim follows Absynth.

On May 31, Ten Cent Lure will take its Gulf Stream Ultra up the coast then head east toward Idaho and Montana for an extended summer tour.
