OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif. – Emergency crews retrieved the body of 52-year-old local man Saturday morning from the Truckee River, officials confirmed Monday.

The body has been identified as Eric Klaussen, of Olympic Valley, according to an email from Placer County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jeffrey Ausnow. The official cause of death is being investigated.

“At 11:15 a.m. two visitors to the Tahoe Basin were on the bike path near River Ranch when they observed a body in the water of the Truckee River,” Ausnow said.

After being notified by dispatch, Ausnow said North Tahoe Fire Department rescue personnel arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced Klaussen deceased.

Klaussen was last seen by family members on Saturday afternoon in the Squaw Valley USA area, Ausnow said. The body had no visible signs of trauma, and there is no evidence of foul play, he said.

“The cause of death will not be known until a forensic autopsy can be performed later in the week,” Ausnow said.
