Bomb squad investigates noise

A Tahoe-Douglas Bomb Squad member examines a trash can after

a gas company employee on Saturday heard a noise coming from the can at 2542 Palmira Ave. and thought it might be a bomb. The Tahoe-Douglas Fire Protection District Bomb Squad member discovered the noise was being made by broken smoke detector. Homes, apartments and businesses within 1,000 feet of the trash can were evacuated from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. while the bomb squad investigated.
