MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa will launch a slate of activities with its grand opening starting today.

The celebration aims to highlight a massive remodeling valued at more than the $45 million purchase of the former Caesars Tahoe by Kentucky-based Columbia Sussex, the parent company of Horizon Resort Casino located across Highway 50 in the Stateline casino corridor.

Tonight’s kickoff gets under way with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marquee lighting and fireworks display scheduled for 8:30 p.m. For the event, the casino has brought out celebrity guest Howie Mandel, who will host a comedy show at 9:30 p.m.

Night owls may also have the option of free admission to MontBleu’s new Blu Nightclub at 11 p.m. At the same time on Thursday, the Opal Eurasian Cuisine & Ultra Lounge also opens its doors for free.

On Saturday, MontBleu’s chefs will drum up a cooking demonstration at 11 a.m. Another fireworks show is scheduled at 9 p.m. that night to be followed one hour later by a Sugar Ray concert. Sunday features George Clinton & P Funk Allstars, and Monday rounds out the holiday weekend with an Evans Blue concert.

The transition representing the fall of the Roman Empire to a French name meaning Blue Mountain has been in the works for a year.
