Book is a hip-pocket guide to Carson Range

Provided to the Tribune

“East Tahoe Trails” is full color and shaped to fit your hip pocket. In the book author John McCall described 29 of his favorite hikes and walks in Nevada’s Carson Range. These range from leisurely “lakeside rambles” to a challenging three-day backpacking trip.

Each hike description contains a detailed topographic route map and most have one or more color photos. Each section of the book also contains detailed descriptions and maps of the trailheads convenient to Tahoe neighborhoods and the Stateline vacation areas.

McCall and his wife, Diane, have lived at Tahoe since 1999, after being part-timer residents since the 1960s. They have helped build the Tahoe Rim Trail since the early 1980s and John currently serves on that board. On moving to Zephyr Cove they looked for guidebooks to east shore hiking and found them sadly lacking. Thus, “East Tahoe Trails” was born. McCall also shares his research into the region’s rich history. He will donate all proceeds from sale of the book to the Tahoe Rim Trail.

In addition to hiking, building and writing about trails, McCall has enthusiastically joined the Tahoe community. He served on the 2000 Douglas County Grand Jury and went through the Douglas Leadership Program. He was elected to his community’s GID governing board and serves on the Nevada Tahoe Partnership and the Pathway 2007 Forum. He looks forward to meeting anyone who would like to see his book at Neighbors an share ideas about and dreams for the community.

Anyone who would like a preview of the book and a sample hike is invited to visit http:easttahoetrails.blogspot.com.
