Boy hit by ski shuttle

A 5-year-old boy was seriously injured Monday when he stepped between two shuttle buses at Heavenly Ski Resort’s Boulder Lodge.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the two buses were idling in the resort’s loading zone when the boy walked in between them and fell in front of the second bus. The bus driver didn’t see the boy as he pulled out around 10:25 a.m.

The boy was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital by Tahoe Douglas firefighters with a fractured femur and possible pelvic and abdominal injuries. He was then airlifted to Washoe Medical Center.

At 5:30 p.m. he was listed in serious condition in the hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit. The boy’s name and hometown were withheld.

On Monday afternoon, John Wagnon, vice president of marketing for Heavenly, said the resort had few details about the accident, but said that safety is of the utmost importance for Area Transit Management, the bus contractor, and Heavenly Ski Resort.

“We are concerned about the 5-year-old boy and his family,” Wagnon said.
