Boys & Girls Club crochets caps for kids

Provided to the Tahoe Daily Tribune/ Members and staff of the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe showing off the caps they crocheted are, from left, Michelle Gatien, Casey Cabristante, Sonja Burns, Kree Seymour and Keith Dennis.

Kree Seymour, unit director of the Boys & Girl Club of Lake Tahoe has been teaching club members and staff how to crochet.

The first order of business was to make caps for the Caps for Kids project spearheaded by Cindy Beberg of the Parks and Recreation Department. Many of the members have been working on caps to give as gifts for friends and family for Christmas, and of course to express their own style with a cap made for themselves.

Crocheting is just one of many activities offered to youth ages 6 to 18 at the Boys & Girls Club. The club offers after-school programs as well as all-day “camps” during school breaks and the summer.

Activities include Power Hour (and help with homework), sports, art, computers, leadership, teen programs, sewing, drama/theater, and music to name a few.

The Boys & Girls Club of America is a nationally recognized youth development organization that will be celebrating 100 years in 2006. Our local club will be proudly acknowledging 15 years of service at the same time.

One of the priorities of the club is to keep fees affordable. The cost of the after school program is $20 per year. All-day programs are reasonably priced at $15 per day or $50 for the weekly rate.
