Boys start fire in carport

Three South Lake Tahoe boys were cited for arson Monday afternoon after a fire in an Edgewood Circle home’s carport.

According to the South Lake Tahoe police, a neighbor working in his yard saw three young boys walking by his residence in the 900 block of Edgewood Circle. The boys reportedly passed the house three times within a 15-minute time period around 1:40 p.m.

He said the boys walked away quickly and he saw smoke coming from the carport.

The neighbor called 911 and extinguished the fire before emergency personnel arrived. The fire was started with gasoline, paint, and a cardboard box, according to investigators. The doorway of the residence showed signs of attempted entry into the vacant house. Police said the door knob was partially destroyed.

The three boys were contacted, one had white paint on his body and clothes. Police said the boys, 8, 7, and 9, were fully cooperative. They were all cited for arson and released to their parents.
