Bread & Broth volunteers honored

More than 100 volunteers for Bread & Broth volunteers were honored during a meal at Lake Tahoe Golf Course on April 29.

Father John Grace of St. Theresa’s Church, who started the program 23 years ago, was recognized with Pauline and Bud Salvato, Wendy David, Susan Baker and Susan Newbre for their service since the program began in 1989.

Last year, volunteers put in 4,100 hours to help with the program, a press release stated.

Local businesses were also recognized for their contributions. Those businesses include Bert’s Cafe, Cakes by Grace, Capisce, Don’s Cakes by the Lake, Ernie’s Coffee Shop, Fresh Ketch Restaurant, Freshies, Harrah’s/Harveys, Heart Rock Herb & Spice Co., Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church, Lake Tahoe Golf Course, MontBleu, Mott Canyon, Murphy’s Rockwater Grill, Nepheles, Orchid’s Thai Cuisine, Passaretti’s Italian Restaurant, Port of Subs, Primo’s Bistro, St. Theresa Catholic Church, Scusa Restaurant, Sugar Pine Bakery, TEP’s Villa Roma, Thran’s Flower Shop, Weidinger Public Relations and Yellow Sub.

Bread & Broth is a nondenominational, all-volunteer program that serves a free meal to about 150 people each Monday at St. Theresa Catholic Church and every Friday at Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church.
