BREAKING NEWS: Crane crashes into home, two more homes evacuated

Ground underneath a crane that weighs several tons gave way this morning near Stateline, crashing into a home and is threatening two others.

The crane operator escaped injuries after jumping out of the machine before it rolled down the hillside into the home at 678 Highway 50, said Douglas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tom Mezzetta. No other injuries were reported.

The crane struck the home causing major damage to its side and is now braced against two large retaining wall posts. There are two homes below that have been evacuated because the braces that are holding the crane may collapse, Mezzetta said.

Occupational Safety Hazard Administration officials have been called to the scene. The accident happened shortly before 10 a.m.
