As of this week, all firewood cutting and gathering is suspended on the Carson Ranger District.

Fire management officers are seeing 10-year, record-breaking fire danger.

“If and when we get enough moisture to decrease the hazard to an acceptable level, firewood cutting and gathering can resume,” said District Ranger Gary Schiff.

Boxer to speak at park opening

U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer will join community members to dedicate Squaw Valley Park Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Located within the Tahoe National Forest near the Squaw Valley Resort, the 30-acre community park features an all-weather soccer field, two playgrounds, family picnic areas and a paved bike trail to Lake Tahoe.

Boxer helped Placer County to obtain the park land from the U.S. Forest Service. On Saturday she will salute officials, businesses and residents who helped make the new park a reality.

The park is located at the intersection of Squaw Valley Road and Highway 89.
