Broadway style comes to the Duke
ALL |
The Duke Theater at Lake Tahoe Community College continues this week with “2 by 5,” a musical revue celebrating the music of John Kander and Fred Ebb.
Mark Williams, the college’s musical director, said that although Kander and Ebb are not quite household names like Rodgers and Hammerstein, they did write two of musical theatre’s best-known and -loved musicals: “Chicago” and “Cabaret.”
The “2” in the show’s name stands for the duo; the “5” references the original production in 1978, when five singer-dancers and a pianist performed the show in the Village Gate cabaret in Greenwich Village.
LTCC’s production will be on a slightly grander scale, featuring 26 soloists, 11 dancers, a live six-piece combo with new arrangements, a swinging nightclub set and elaborate costumes.
The show runs at 8 p.m. March 13-15 in the Duke Theatre. There is a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16. Tickets are available March at the theater box office for $7, $5 for seniors and $4 for students. There is also premium table seating available on a first-come basis. For more information, call (530) 541-4660, ext. 382.
