Brush fire in Montgomery Estates

Firefighters quickly knocked down a small brush fire in the Montgomery Estates neighborhood Tuesday afternoon. According to fire investigators, the fire was started by human error.

Lake Valley Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service both dispatched two engines around 1:49 p.m. to Sutter Trail near the cross of Bonanza Trail. Officials said the 50-by-100-foot fire was feeding on trees, pine needles, downed slash, manzanita, and was extinguished in nine minutes.

The fire occurred between Sutter and Sierra House trails and behind several homes. Two children’s bikes were also found laying near the fire area that appeared to include the remains of a makeshift children’s fort, fire officials said.

The U.S. Forest Service is investigating the cause of the fire.
