Burgers eaten for a good cause at Hard Rock Cafe

LAKE TAHOE – The Guns & Hoses Legendary Burger Eating Contest, a fundraiser for local nonprofits, will take place Sunday at Hard Rock Cafe at Harveys Resort Casino.

California Highway Patrol officers, Tahoe Douglas firefighters and South Lake Tahoe police officers will compete against each other on behalf of nonprofit organizations. Each team will consist of three people who will participate in a three-minute burger-eating contest. Veggie burgers will be substituted for those who don’t eat meat.

First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded, with cash prizes totaling $1,000 to be donated to the competitors’ nonprofit of choice. The event is at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Those stopping by to catch the competition will have a chance to win a guitar signed by James Blunt, Harveys Improv tickets, hotel stays, dining credits and other prizes. All proceeds will go to the nonprofits as well. A Hard Rock birthday cake will be served, too.

All police, firefighters, EMS, U.S. Forest Service and civil servants with a badge are invited for 71-cent-burgers all Sunday.
