Burglars go after vacation homes

Vacation homes on the east end of South Lake Tahoe are being targeted by burglars.

Detective Martin Hewlett of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department said it appears that the break-ins started at the end of November. Homes on Brian Lane, Shepherds Drive and Steven Lane are a few that have been hit.

“It appears that the majority of the activity is east of Johnson Boulevard,” Hewlett said. “They are predominantly vacation homes, sometimes by mistake they have hit a single-family home, but mostly it’s vacation homes.”

Hewlett said that witnesses described seeing three to four Hispanic males, ranging in age from 17 to 21 years old, near the residences.

The burglaries are ongoing and the thieves seem to be after electronics such as, VCRs and televisions.

“They are more than likely residents,” Hewlett said about the perpetrators. “They know the area, which homes are unoccupied. They know which yards to go through, and what fences to jump over. They know how to get home quickly after the break-in.”

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call either Secret Witness at (530) 541-6800 or the South Lake Tahoe Police Department at (530) 542-6100.
