Burglars target ski resort

William Ferchland, Tahoe Daily Tribune

Motorists have experienced a recent rash of car burglaries, the Alpine County Sheriff’s Department reported Tuesday.

Six were reported Monday, with one vehicle losing merchandise worth more than $1,200, Deputy Spencer Case said. Items taken include cellular telephones, digital cameras and purses. No total estimated value was available.

“These are people looking for quick cash,” Case said.

Some items were reported as hidden in the vehicles. Others were located in plain view.

Case reminded motorists to refrain from leaving valuable items in their cars.

The majority of vehicles targeted were parked near Kirkwood Mountain Resort, but others were located off Highway 88.

Vehicles traditionally have been targets at ski resorts based on the sheer number of people frequenting the area.
