Tire company sponsors fundraiser

Big O Tires – including the South Lake Tahoe location at the “Y” – is sponsoring a fundraising drive for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to help combat pediatric cancer.

The foundation began when a young girl named Alexander “Alex,” at the age of 4 suffered from neuroblastoma, began raising funds for research with her lemonade stand.

The tire company has donated $50,000 to the effort.

Company expands satellite network

HughesNet based in Germantown, Md. announced recently it is expanding its broadband satellite networks and services into northern California and placed South Lake Tahoe on its list.

The company claims it serves more than 300,000 customers in nearly 26,000 ZIP codes throughout the United States.

National gas prices hit another record

Nationwide gas prices hit yet another record in the last three weeks, rising just over one cent to nearly $3.03 per gallon, according to a survey released Sunday.

The national average for self-serve regular stood at $3.025 a gallon Friday, up 1.06 cents since July 21, according to the Lundberg Survey of 7,000 gas stations across the country.

The price exceeds the previous high of $3.015 set in July, analyst Trilby Lundberg said.
