The League of California Cities’ Sacramento Valley elected South Lake Tahoe City Councilman Ted Long, he announced two weeks ago.

Long pledged to focus on transportation and housing funds.

The meeting, which was hosted by the Lakeside Inn and Casino, brought out 60 delegates.

Paradise Real Estate to hold open house

Paradise Real Estate & Timeshare Resale will host an open house and ribbon cutting on Wednesday at its new location at 1111 Ski Run Blvd., in South Lake Tahoe.

The company has invited members of South Shore chambers of commerce.

Employment healthy despite jobless claims

The number of newly laid-off people singing up for jobless benefits went up last week but that didn’t darken the big picture of a mostly healthy employment climate across the country.

The Labor Department reported Thursday that new applicants filing for unemployment insurance rose by a seasonally adjusted 2,000 to 318,000 for the week ending June 30.
