Cadets go quietly into Minden sky

Cadets of the Civil Air Patrol Blackhawk Composite Squadron took their first glider flight on August 31, 2001 at the Minden Airport. Six cadets experienced preflight briefing before being harnessed into the front seat of a glider under the guidance of Capt. Gary Swift, the Nevada Wing Glider Program manager and glider pilots from Los Alamitos, Calif. The cadets participating, Arsene Trudeau, Jacob Griffin, Destina Brown, Johnny Baca, Kristina and Krystal Alderson, were able to stay in the air for thirty or forty minutes with their experienced glider pilots. The glider program is ongoing. The Blackhawk Squadron Cadet program meets at Lake Tahoe airport every Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Youth in the 6th grade through 21 years of age are eligible and encouraged to attend. For further information call Capt. Sharon Reardon at 541-4842.
