Cal guard transfers to Baylor

The Associated Press

WACO, Texas – Freshman guard Gary Franklin is transferring to Baylor after starting 11 of California’s first 13 games this season.

Baylor coach Scott Drew said Wednesday that the California native has enrolled in classes on the Waco campus. The 6-foot-2 guard will have three seasons of eligibility after sitting out the rest of this season and the 2011 fall semester.

Franklin was averaging 8.2 points for California when he said that he was leaving last week. Cal coach Mike Montgomery said he was disappointed but wished Franklin well.

As a senior at Mater Dei High in Santa Ana, Calif., Franklin averaged 17.4 points, 4.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds a game and was the California Interscholastic Federational player of the year.
