California Trout revives stewardship group
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – California Trout, a new non-profit to the Lake Tahoe region has recently revised the Upper Truckee River Stewardship Group along with the League to Save Lake Tahoe and the Tahoe Resource Conservation District, said Jenny Hatch, CalTrout’s Northern Sierra Regional Program Director, in a statement this week
The stewardship group was originally established in 2008 as a project of the League to Save Lake Tahoe. Due to funding shortfalls the group dissolved in 2009, Hatch said
The stewardship group is a community based forum for environmental education and discussion of watershed issues. It is a place for residents and community members to come together to help shape the future of the basin’s largest and most significant waterway, Hatch said.
The group hopes to foster volunteer participation and leadership to encourage a stronger local voice in the regulatory decision-making process, Hatch added.
The group has several upcoming events. For more information, call (530) 541-3495 or e-mail caltrout.volunteers@gmail.com
