Cancer volunteers get honors- Drivers make trips to save lives

People often speak of the “Silent Majority” and that certainly speaks for the many volunteer drivers for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League. They are available at any given time to transport patients to Reno and Carson City for cancer treatments. The Cancer League reimburses the drivers for gasoline, but at no cost to the patient.

Recently, the Cancer League featured the Sheriff’s Team of Active Retirees drivers for the league and now they are recognizing the many other silent individuals in the community who also share their time with cancer patients.

The volunteer drivers include John Sloane, Sheila Sloane, LaVerne Einess, Bert and Annette Barnett, Karen Bourdase, Greta Campbell, Dick Corley, Gabriele Cozzalgio, Bill Dollman, Dorothy Flavin, Norma Frost, Shirley Irving, Ruthe Justice, Beverly Lang, Peg McCamish, Stella Ortega, Barbara Philips, Linda Stroot, Sharon Sabol, Johnnine Wahl, Helen Henderson, transportation coordinator and Gwen Gross, assistant transportation coordinator.

For more information on cancer patient transportation call Henderson at (530) 573-1020 or Gross at (530) 577-2400.
