Concerned Advocates for Perinatal Issues on Oct. 3 hosted 25 community professionals from Tahoe and Alpine County to kick off its Circle of Advocacy campaign. The event took place at the CAPRI office in South Lake Tahoe.

The purpose of the CAPRI Circle of Advocacy is to link perinatal health education, information, and referral services to pregnant women who are at risk due to perinatal tobacco, alcohol, other drug exposure and co-occurring disorders. The Circle of Advocacy embraces the 3 W’s approach: Window of Opportunity + Warm Hand Off = Willing Partner.

CAPRI is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the health and well being of the infants and mothers in Alpine and El Dorado counties. CAPRI works closely with Tahoe Family Physicians, who use the research- based 4 P’s Plus Screening Tool developed by Dr. Ira Chasnoff, one of the nation’s leading researchers in the field of maternal drug use during pregnancy.

CAPRI appreciates all who participated in the community engagement as well as Starbucks who donated coffee and tea.
