Car accident near Kyburz

Three people were injured early Sunday when an eastbound Mazda MX 6 on U.S. Highway 50 near Kyburz crossed into the westbound lane and hit a Dodge pickup head-on.

The wreck closed Highway 50 from 12:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. while the vehicles were towed from the road.

A helicopter transported the driver of the Mazda, Angel Nuvarro, 22, of Sacramento, to Sutter-Roseville Hospital with cut knees and pain in his hip.

The driver of the pickup, Stephen Meeth, 39, of Pollock Pines, said he had pain in his chest as did his wife, Susan Meeth, 40, who was in the passenger seat. Paramedics transported the Meeths to Marshall Hospital in Placerville.

California Highway Patrol officers said Nuvarro was driving under the influence of alcohol when he caused the wreck. Everyone in the wreck was wearing a seat belt.
