Caregiver classes offered

El Dorado County Family Caregiver Support Program will conduct a series of classes designed to provide instruction and support for those who are caring for a family member or friend who is 60 years of age or older. Classes will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 6, 13 and 20 at Embassy Suites, 4130 Lake Tahoe Blvd., in Stateline.

All classes and materials, including refreshments, will be offered free of charge, but donations will be gratefully accepted. Respite care is available to qualified caregivers.

— Nov. 6: “The Risks and Benefits of Medications” by Steven Rubin, M.D. Understand the risks and benefits of medication that are relevant to the aging individual. Attendees will better understand the prevalence and indications of medications such as anti-depressants, sedatives, mood stabilizers and memory enhancers.

— Nov. 13: “Elements of Good Communication for Caregivers” by Larry Davis, MSW. Learn how to deal with difficult personalities, reading body language and understanding geriatric needs.

— Nov. 20: “Learn to Transfer Without an Aching Back.” Learn simple hands-on techniques to help individuals who may need assistance.
