Caregiving tips offered

A Spring 2006 Caregiver Series titled “Prepare the Ground, Nurture the Seed and Reflect on the Beauty” is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. each Monday for six weeks April 3 through May 8 at South Lake Tahoe.

Sponsored by El Dorado County Family Caregiver Support Program and IHSS/Public Authority, the free series will take place at Embassy Suites at Stateline, 4130 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

This six-week series of classes is designed to provide instruction and support for caregivers who are or plan to care for a family member of friend 60 years of age or greater.

All classes and materials are offered free of charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. Refreshments will be served. Free respite care is available to qualified caregivers

To register call El Dorado County Family Caregiver Support Program at (530) 621-6151 or (530) 621-6251. Advance authorization is required for respite services.

— April 3: “Preparing Legal Stepping Stones.” Important legal issues and documents with question and answer time. Diana B. Steele, attorney-at-law.

— April 10: “Growing in Knowledge.” Neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s, stroke, epilepsy, MS, and ALS. Nancy Maderick, RN.

— April 17: “Gathering your Tools.” Preparing for a doctor visit. Medical binder provided. Nancy Maderick, RN.

— April 24: “Picture Perfect Garden.” Picture yourself relaxed, coping well, healthier and happier. Eileen Keaveny, L.C.S.W.

— May 1: “Staying on the Same Path.” Learn effective communication skills and conflict resolution. Eileen Keaveny, L.C.S.W.

— May 8: “Reflecting on your Life Landscape.” Life lessons, losses and grief. Eileen Keaveny, L.C.S.W.
