‘Carmina Burana’ at Caesars Tahoe tonight
All stops have been pulled for the Reno Philharmonic orchestra’s season finale – and it will be at the South Shore of Lake Tahoe following two performances in Reno. The ever-popular “Carmina Burana” was performed to a sold-out house in Reno’s 1999-2000 season in music director Barry Jekowsky’s second season.
Along with 85 musicians, including the biggest percussion in classical music, will be a stage loaded with more than 200 singers from four University of Nevada, Reno, choruses, Truckee Meadows College singers, Lake Tahoe Unified School District Blue Ribbon Treble Choir and the versatile Tahoe Choir in conjunction with the LTCC chorus. For more than 60 years Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” has thrilled and enthralled its listening audiences. Last heard at Caesars Tahoe in 1983, “Carmina” will play once again tonight in its Circus Maximus showroom.
No other town the size of South Lake Tahoe can boast of a community choir that has attracted a major orchestra with which to collaborate like the Philharmonic in Reno.
Tonight’s soloists are Anton Belov, baritone; Courtenay Budd, soprano; and Joshua Lindsay, tenor. Come and hear the full and double incredible choruses, the men in the rousing and robust “Taberna,” the amusing tenor solo regarding a hapless roasted swan, and the exuberance and beauty of “Carmina Burana” itself. Written in Latin, Medieval German and Old French, along with a few nonsense syllables, a translation will be provided in the program.
The $20 ticket for open seating comes with a discount coupon for many of Caesars’ fine restaurants. The one and only performance begins at 7:30 p.m. to allow entire families to attend. Doors open 45 minutes before the show with a no-intermission performing time of approximately 65 minutes. Everyone is encouraged to come and enjoy this brilliant collaboration of talent led by Barry Jekowsky on the podium in this special event.
Tickets are still available and may be reserved by phone or purchased in person at Caesars Tahoe box office, (775) 588-3515 or at the South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas chambers of commerce.
