A two-car collision late Saturday night at the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and State Route 28 left a Walnut Creek man seriously injured.

David Zabarte, 25, had to be cut from a green 1995 Mitsubishi pickup and airlifted by helicopter to Washoe Medical Center with a broken leg, several fractured ribs and a snapped collar bone. Sunday the hospital listed Zabarte in serious but stable condition.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Patrick McGill said Zabarte failed to yield to a 1997 black GMC Yukon driven by a 47-year-old from Agoura Hills, Calif. McGill said the 25-year-old will be cited for the violation.

The Yukon, headed westbound on Highway 50 around 11 p.m., collided with the driver’s side of the pickup. Zabarte was attempting to turn east toward Carson City.

A 26-year-old woman from Palo Alto, Calif. in the pickup’s passenger seat was treated at Barton Memorial Hospital for pain in her hip.

The Agoura Hills man was treated for a chest injury and released . McGill said each person involved in the wreck was wearing a seat belt.
