Carson City man arrested for child porn possession: More charges are expected after investigators allegedly find dozens of photos of children as young as 5

CARSON CITY – A capital city man was arrested Wednesday, accused of possessing dozens of images of child pornography in which the victims are indisputably under the age of 16, authorities said.

Jason Eric Excell, 35, who lists his occupation as a student and a security guard, was booked into the Carson City Jail on suspicion of three felony counts of possession of child pornography.

According to Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Bob White, Excell’s wife gave investigators several computer disks and three computer hard drives on Wednesday morning that allegedly contained numerous images of child pornography.

“(She) had located some CDs that were hidden in their family den with Jason’s handwriting on them,” Detective Cate Summers wrote in the arrest report. “I observed the contents of the CDs and found dozens of photographs depicting juveniles in sexually explicit poses.”

Several of the photographs were labeled with girls’ names and ages, in some cases as young as 5.

Summers contacted Excell on Highway 50 East after he was dropped off by a friend with whom he carpooled to classes in Reno. He agreed to speak to her at the detective division. There, according to authorities, Excell consented to a search of his backpack, where a portable computer storage device was found containing child pornography, along with nude photos of Excell.

White said Excell has no criminal record.

“We are going to review the evidence and give it to the district attorney’s office, and we anticipate more counts to follow,” he said.

Excell is being held on $75,000 bail.
