William Ferchland

A 41-year-old Carson City man died Monday afternoon when he fell about 30 feet off a roof of a two-story residence on North Bowl Lane off Kingsbury Grade, authorities said.

The man, who was not identified pending notification of family, was attempting to avoid building material sliding from the roof, said Douglas County sheriff’s Sgt. Tom Mezzetta.

The man was unconscious but breathing but died before paramedics could transport him to a waiting helicopter for transport, Mezzetta said.

Per procedure, authorities contacted the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Mezzetta said.

The man was working for AAA Roofing which could not be reached for comment.
