GENOA (AP) – A Carson High School drama student was killed and five others were injured Saturday in a car wreck following a student performance at an event to mark this small town’s 150th anniversary.

The victim, Joshua Spuehleur, 16, and four other students were leaving town when their car crossed the center line and hit an oncoming SUV. The teen-age girl driving the students’ car had overcorrected after drifting onto the dirt shoulder, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

The driver, who wasn’t named, was hospitalized with neck injuries, along with another 16-year-old girl who suffered head and neck injuries.

Another passenger in the students’ car, Hillary Heller, daughter of Secretary of State Dean Heller, and the SUV’s occupants, Steven Pond, 29, and Chastity Pond, 25, of Sacramento, were treated for rib injuries.
