The Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St. in Carson City, is presenting an exclusive exhibit of cartoons and humorous illustrations by animator/illustrator Fox Carlton Hughes through the month of April. A champagne reception will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in the upstairs ballroom at the BAC.

Although Hughes is well known for his abstract art, with several pieces presently on display in the Reno/Carson area, this cartoon show called “From the Drawing Board” exhibits another side of his talents. Along with several large-framed pieces, there will be a number of prints gleaned from the pages of old sketchbooks scribbled during his years as an animator/illustrator/cartoonist for many major studios. There are literally hundreds of character studies that touch on the lighter side of life and slapstick stereotypes. There will be page layouts from children’s books created for Disney Studios, American Graphics, Rebecca House and many others, plus set designs for motion pictures and TV shows and children’s CDs.

The exhibit also includes photos of his funny “Fabulous Flying Floozies,” hand-made wooden acrobatic toys sold throughout the United States and abroad.

Although some of the artwork is for sale, the show is primarily for the public’s visual enjoyment, a few giggles and the possibility that some aspiring young art student will find something of value for his or her continuing pursuit of humorous art.
