CASA Corner: Back to the beach in support of CASA

Wendy David
CASA volunteer

Is it just me or are you also noticing how time goes by at least twice as quickly during the months of June, July and August? Even with the long days of sunshine, there are simply not enough minutes for our favorite mountain hikes, bike rides, water sports, lake barbecues, or sitting on our deck enjoying tall drinks and tall tales with friends

And then, there are the outdoor concerts. Last week alone there was jazz, country, reggae, rock — literally a tune for everyone’s musical heart strings. And the venues are awesome. I feel so fortunate to live here and have so many choices, all under a Tahoe sunset with the sand in my toes or my friends around me.

CASA El Dorado feels lucky to be a part of your summer fun on the beach, in the sun, with your friends and at a concert as well. Last summer, CASA EL Dorado held the first Battle of the Best South Shore Bands event at Lakeview Commons. We wanted to have a warm and wonderful evening for the entire community, a free event that also gave the community an opportunity to support CASA here in South Lake Tahoe. It was so incredibly special with more than 600 people attending. Really, it felt like the entire community came out for fun and to be able to help children that can really use an advocate while they are part of the Dependency Court system.

Oh, and the winning band last year, Cash Only! Thanks Cash Only, you were awesome.

The good news is that we are doing it all again on Friday, Aug. 23, from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. The second annual Battle of the Best South Shore Bands will be bigger and better with all the same ingredients: bands playing, wonderful food, a beer-and-wine garden, raffle tickets for awesome prizes, a live auction for two paddle boards, vacation stays, ski passes and more, and a great silent auction with restaurants, etc. All proceeds go directly to helping abused and neglected children.

Please put August 23rd on your calendar as a summer afternoon and evening to make a difference and have a great time. Admission is free, of course. You can park at the Recreation center for free as well. It is a short walk from there.

If you would like to donate an item, or have any questions, call the CASA office at 530-573-3072. See you there! Tahoe summers, Tahoe children, and Tahoe time are all precious. Make the best use of yours in all three ways on Aug. 23.
