Celebrity chefs attend food and wine festival
Tahoe Food & Wine in the Pines — a celebration of great food, outstanding wines, and celebrity chefs, all amidst the splendor of Lake Tahoe and the high Sierra — will come to the South Shore in October.
The event will run from Oct. 10 through 13 at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Harveys Resort Casino, Caesars Tahoe and the Horizon Casino Resort.
The festival will feature the opportunity to taste wines from the world’s most famous wine regions including France, Italy, California, Washington, Oregon, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Europe and South Africa, and food from some of the best restaurants and chefs from the greater Lake Tahoe region. Celebrity chefs will include Martin Yan, Master Chef, cookbook author, and host of more than 1,500 cooking shows.
October 10 will feature wines from Bordeaux, Chateauneaf du Pape, Alsace, and Portugal, a wine tasting seminar, and a food and wine pairing-tasting with special VIP guests and winery representatives, all at the Lake Tahoe Horizon Casino Resort. October 11, Martin Yan will be the featured chef at a special dinner to be held at the Harrah’s Special Events Center. Chef Yan will also be a guest at the “Taste of Pacific Rim” food and wine tasting at Harveys Resort prior to the dinner.
Events on October 12 will include a “Taste of El Dorado Gold,” featuring top local restaurants from Tahoe’s South Shore, paired with wines from El Dorado County and a five-course dinner prepared by top chefs from the national organization Women Chefs & Restaurateurs, led by Ann Cooper, executive chef of the Ross School in East Hampton, N.Y., and consulting chef for the famed Putney Inn in Putney, Vt.
The team also will include Sherry Yard, executive pastry chef for Wolfgang Puck’s Spago restaurant in Beverly Hills, Calif.; Lynn Crawford, chef, Restaurant at the Four Seasons, N.Y.; Christine Keff, chef/owner, The Flying Fish, Seattle, Wash.; Zov Karamaradian, chef/owner, Zov’s Bistro, Tustin, Calif.; and women chefs of The Getty Center, Los Angeles, Lisa Capozzi, chef, Bon Appetit Management Company; Helene Jane Kennan, executive chef, The Getty Center; and Terri L. Buzzard, chef, The Getty Center.
Additionally, confirmed presenters to date for the Women Winemaker’s Seminar scheduled Saturday afternoon at Harveys are Margaret Duckhorn, Duckhorn Winery Company, St. Helena, Calif., and Holly Peterson Mondavi, raised in a famous winemaking family, now a well-known consultant and creator of food and wine programs, educational seminars and classes.
The grand finale event on Oct. 13 will be a gala food and wine tasting featuring a wide variety of wines from around the world and great food provided by some of the top restaurants from the greater Lake Tahoe region.
Four selected charities will benefit from event proceeds: South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center; Culinary Arts Department at Lake Tahoe Community College; South Lake Tahoe Bread and Broth program; and Barbara Tropp Scholarship Fund of Women Chefs & Restaurateurs.
