Ceres police nab suspect in alleged South Shore assault
Working on information from South Lake Tahoe police detectives, officers from the police department in Ceres, Calif., arrested a 21-year-old man Thursday for an alleged sexual assault this month.
Modesto resident Gilberto Mejia, 26, allegedly accosted and sexually assaulted a 21-year-old woman on the morning of March 2 outside a house on Margaret Avenue in South Lake Tahoe, said South Lake Tahoe police Sgt. Jeff Reagan.
Reagan declined to give further details of the incident but said Mejia was arrested on suspicion of two felonies: sexual penetration by foreign object and false imprisonment.
The case remains under investigation. Reagan expects Mejia to be brought to the area to face charges in El Dorado County Superior Court.
Mejia was being held in Stanislaus County Jail, with bail set at $100,000, Reagan said.
