UPDATE: Chain requirements back in place around Lake Tahoe

With another winter storm dumping fresh snow in the Lake Tahoe Basin Thursday evening, chain controls are back in effect on the following highways.

U.S. 50

Chain requirement: 1.5 miles west of Kyburz to Meyers in El Dorado County in California.

Chain requirement: Stateline to Carson City

Interstate 80

Chain requirement: 3 miles east of Gold Run in Placer County, California to Truckee in Nevada County

California State Route 89

Chain requirement: 5 miles north of the junction of U.S. 50 to D.L. Bliss State Park in El Dorado County to the junction of Interstate 80 in Nevada County

Chain requirement: From Picketts Junction in Alpine County to 2.7 miles south of the junction of U.S. 50 in El Dorado County

Nevada State Route 207 (Kingsbury Grade)

Chain requirement: From mile post 0.0 in Douglas County to mile post 14.6.

 

UPDATE: Some chain requirements lifted in Sierra; another storm approaching

Chain controls have been lifted as of 12:30 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 50 and Interstate 80 in California.

Chain requirements remain in effect for U.S. 50 on the East Shore of Lake Tahoe and on California State Route 89 on the West Shore.

With another storm in the forecast for later this afternoon, transportation officials are urging motorists to be ready for re-implementation of chain controls in areas they have been lifted.

With a winter storm dumping snow Wednesday night into Thursday morning, chain controls are in effect on Sierra highways in the Lake Tahoe region.

Chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels in the following areas on regional highways.

U.S. 50

Chain requirement: 1.5 miles west of Kyburz to Meyers in El Dorado County in California.

Chain requirement: Stateline to Carson City

Interstate 80

Chain requirement: 1 mile east of Baxter in Placer County, California to the Nevada state line

Truck screening: Trucks are being screened at Applegate in Placer County, California

California State Route 89

Chain requirement: 5 miles north of the junction of U.S. 50 to D.L. Bliss State Park in El Dorado County to the junction of Interstate 80 in Nevada County

Chain requirement: From Picketts Junction in Alpine County to 2.7 miles south of the junction of U.S. 50 in El Dorado County

Nevada State Route 207 (Kingsbury Grade)

Chain requirement: From mile post 0.0 in Douglas County to mile post 12.0
