Chamber to host business loan clinic

The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce and the North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce are partnering with the California and Nevada Small Business Development Centers, government agencies, banks, non-bank lenders and a certified development company to host a business loan clinic from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 22 at Lake Tahoe Community College.

Lenders will be present that support SBA lending programs that include business loans for business owner-occupied commercial real estate and business equipment, $500-$2,000,000 businesses loans for existing businesses with historic repayment ability; $500-$250,000 businesses loans for existing businesses; unsecured loans up to $25,000; and free technical assistance.

All owners must be present to apply. Loans for start-up businesses (less than two years in operation) require the clients to receive business counseling from a technical assistance provider before approved loans are disbursed. The counseling is free. The Greater Sacramento Small Business Development Center, the Nevada Small Business Development Center and the Nevada Microenterprise Initiative will have representatives available to schedule counseling. The loan clinic is for existing businesses only.

Nevada Microenterprise Initiative is the SBA microlender in the state of Nevada. Loan proceeds from $500 to $35,000 can be used to purchase equipment, inventory, supplies and working capital.

Using the SBAExpress program, existing businesses (in operation 24 months) can apply online for loans up to $100,000. A dedicated computer will be set up so applicants can come in and apply online for these loans.

Bank lenders at the clinic will include: Bank of the West, Celtic Bank, Heritage Bank of Nevada, United Western Bank, US Bank and Wells Fargo Bank. Non-bank lenders will include Nevada Microenterprise Initiative, Rural Nevada Development Corporation, Sierra Economic Development Corporation and Superior Financial Group.

Additional partner organizations that will be present at the clinic include Nevada State Development Corporation, Asset Commercial Credit, Rivera Finance, the city of South Lake Tahoe, Small Business Administration and U.S. Department of Agriculture-Rural Development.

“I’m very excited about these new programs and the participation of our lending partners and resource partners,” said David Leonard, SBA senior area manager. “Applicants will be able to apply for a commercial loan, set up a commercial checking account, and set up counseling with a technical assistance partner in one stop.”

Get inspired for your businesses’ success by beginning the day with “Secrets to Success: Blue Ribbon Winners Workshop” featuring Melodie Ulman of Freshies, Jana Spano of Sealed with a Kiss and Ashley Mattila of Marcus Ashley Galleries. These business owners have each received the Blue Ribbon Experience or Entrepreneur Award and will provide invaluable insight to other local businesses on what has made their businesses so successful in the South Lake Tahoe community.

The workshop will be immediately before the loan clinic, from 8-9:30 a.m. in the Creekside Room at Lake Tahoe Community College.

Seating is limited. Call (775) 588-1728 to RSVP for one or both workshops.
