Chamber will meet

Outgoing South Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce President Stan Hansen will pass the gavel to President-elect Gail Taylor on Thursday during the chamber’s monthly board of directors meeting.

The meeting begins at 8 a.m. at Caesars Tahoe.

During the meeting, Taylor will announce the executive committee for the coming year.

The chamber officers and board will be formally installed during a dinner party on June 4.

Also on the agenda is discussion on the proposal by Sen. Dianne Feinstein to create a special federal designation for the Tahoe Basin. The Lake Tahoe Restoration Act would rename the region the Lake Tahoe National Scenic and Forest Recreation Area and create a federal relationship different from existing forestry or recreational areas. It is hoped that the new designation would increase the lake’s visibility in Washington and increase federal funding.

The chamber will also discuss a proposal by the city of South Lake Tahoe to prohibit parking on city streets during the winter months.
