Changing of the guard Tuesday for City Council
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — The final city council meeting of 2022 on Tuesday will feature a changing of the guard.
Election results will be certified and then Mayor Devin Middlebrook will be recognized for his service to the city as his term expires. Middlebrook decided not to run for re-election and will make room on the council for Scott Robbins who was the popular choice for voters in November.
Mayor Pro Tem Cristi Creegan will administer the oath of office for City Clerk Sue Blankenship who ran unopposed in the election. Blankenship will then administer the oath of office for Robbins.
After the oaths are administered, a new mayor and mayor pro tem will be chosen.
The council heading into the new year consists of Creegan, Robbins, John Friedrich and Cody Bass and Tamara Wallace who each won re-election.
There will be a short break and the meeting will continue with longtime employee recognition and four new city employees will be introduced.
South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue Chief Jim Drennan will be recognized for 20 years of service as will Leslie Asbury, also of the fire department. Michael Gamberg Jr. will be recognized for five years of service.
As for new business, a discussion will be held to select which council members will serve on various boards, commissions and subcommittees. Council members will also decide on citizen representation to the El Dorado County Commission on Aging, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Advisory Planning Commission, and the El Dorado Community Action Council.
Also on the agenda is a request for a 5% rate hike from South Tahoe Refuse.
Customers would see their monthly bills rise $1.76 and for commercial customers their bills would rise $2.01 per cubic yard if approved.
On the consent agenda is approval of a paving machine for street repair and maintenance. When council previously adopted the 2022-23 budget, funds were appropriated to purchase several vehicles and equipment for the Department of Public Works.
The LeeBoy 7000C Paver from Nixon-Egli Equipment Co. costs $180,346,46.
Also on consent, public works is recommending entering into a reimbursement agreement with Southwest Gas where the city will waive certain pavement restoration requirements for Southwest Gas construction projects in exchange for funding the city’s paving account at a rate of $5 per square foot for restoration that would have otherwise been required.
The agreement will help partially fund the city’s annual paving program for the 2023 construction season.
If approved a resolution will be passed authorizing the execution of a Reimbursement Agreement with Southwest Gas and amending the Street Overlay Program account by appropriating $1,712,035 of in lieu paving funds from Southwest Gas for the purpose of funding the 2023 Road Rehabilitation Project.
The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at City Hall, located at 1901 Lisa Maloff Way.
Meetings are also live-streamed on Channel 21, the city website and via Zoom.
