Cheers and Jeers

CHEERS: To Aramark and Lake Tahoe Cruises and Zephyr Cove Resort for hosting more than 300 local fourth-graders for an Earth Day cruise. Along with informative presentations by the U.S. Forest Service, Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, Nevada Fire Safe Council, South Tahoe Public Utility District, Explore Tahoe and the Tahoe Resource Conservation District, some children also experienced their first time on a boat.

JEERS: To Councilmen Bruce Grego, Jerry Birdwell and Bill Crawford for voting in favor of a special meeting of the City Council to discuss Grego’s legal reimbursement before having all the facts. The letter sent out by Deputy District Attorney James Clinchard this week exonerated Grego of any legal wrongdoing in the issue and could have been crucial in the contentious April 15 meeting. The council was in the right to have openly discussed Grego’s reimbursement, but it would have been helpful to have all the facts before doing so.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The editorial board at the Tahoe Daily Tribune will issue cheers and jeers each Saturday to recognize the positive people, organizations and events in our community, and to criticize, bring light to or comment on the negative ones. Have a cheer or jeer? E-mail it to
